Be Part of the Print: Volunteer for a World Record Cyanotype

We’re inviting you to take part in a once-in-a-lifetime community art experience—a world record attempt for the largest cyanotype (sun print) on the summer solstice on the Blue Bridge in downtown Grand Rapids.

Participants in this sign-up will play a direct role in creating the artwork by laying on a 7.5 ft x 400 ft piece of sun-sensitive fabric and arranging objects they bring from home. As the fabric is exposed to sunlight, your body and objects will leave behind a one-of-a-kind imprint as part of this massive collaborative print.

We’re especially interested in everyday and meaningful objects from your home—items that tell a story or create interesting shapes. Think: lace, pressed flowers, kitchen tools, musical instruments, children’s toys, textiles, or found objects. Flat or low-profile items work best, as anything the sun touches will turn blue.

No experience is needed—just a willingness to participate, follow guidance, and be part of something creative, playful, and historic.
